Shrimp and Grits Print recipe Serves 4-5 Prep time 20 minutes Cook time 15 minutes Total time 35 minutes Dietary Gluten Free Meal type Main Dish Region American Ingredients grits 1 cup yellow medium-coarse cornmeal (grit) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon organic butter 1 tablespoon thyme 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese 2 cups Lactaid skim milk 2 cups water shrimp 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 garlic clove (minced) 1 red bell pepper (chopped) 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1lb medium uncooked shrimp (peeled and deveined) shrimp (Optional) 1 jalapeño (chopped) Directions Grits 1. In a large saucepan, bring water and milk to a simmer over medium hight heat. 2. Slowly add the grits, stirring to prevent clumps. 3. Cook, stirring frequently, until the liquid has been absorbed-about 10 – 15 minutes. Start your shrimp (steps to follow) about 10 minutes into cooking grits. Shrimp 4. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over high heat. Add the garlic and peppers-sauté until tender. 5. Add seasonings to taste. 6. Toss in shrimp and cook, stirring frequently for 5 minutes. 7. Serve over grits.
