Stability ball training is primarily used to increase the demand on your muscles in order to gain stability during exercise. The shape of the ball creates an unstable base of support and therefore, to remain balanced and not fall, you are forced to engage more core muscle strength to remain on the ball. Using a stability ball correctly can improve your balance and abdominal strength as well as burn additional calories because more muscles are activated during exercise.
The stability ball is a versatile piece of equipment. There are many exercises that you can do with the stability ball. I’ll just mention two exercises…the ball squat-The ball can serve as a guide to correct body positioning when the ball is between your back and the wall and you squat. You can also use the ball for an abdominal crunch.
Stability ball training is a progression from using a stable surface such as the floor to perform various exercises so, as your balance is enhanced, the stability ball will become a likely form of training.
